Yahya Sinwar has been killed. His end is hopefully also the end of the Gaza war. But why is his killing such a big moment in the sequence of events in this war?
Israel’s Security Agency Shin Beit’s Former Head of Interrogation, Micheal Koubi has the answer.
“I knew Sinwar almost better than his own mother did. After 180 hours of interrogation with Yahya Sinwar, believe me I know him, I smell him, I eat him, everything. You know, he is the man that I will never forget.”
“Sinwar is the cruellest man I’ve ever met.”
Often called ‘the Butcher from Khan Younis’, Sinwar was a Jew-hater.
Koubi recalled “Yahya Sinwar was a murder(ous) man. He kept dreaming all the time how to kill Jews. That was Yahya Sinwar. For him it doesn’t matter if it is a boy, a child, a woman, or any, or woman. He wants to kill Jews, you know, by machete, that was his dream. He told me that the best way is to kill them by machete, that was during the interrogation. On the 7th of October, they used machetes and they also used guns and rifles.”
On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel in an unprecedented terrorist attack in which militants killed some 1,200 people and took 251 hostages. Over 90 of these are still being held hostage one year later, with several of them already believed to be dead.
Newest Chief In Town
Sinwar was believed to be the mastermind behind this attack. After Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination in Tehran in July, Sinwar was the new chief of Hamas. The decision maker and the architect. With a lot of hatred, now Sinwar also had power in the war against Israel and the Jews.
When Koubi met him, Sinwar was 28-29. He asked Sinwar, why he was not married, why didn’t he have a family.
Sinwar simply said, “The Hamas is my wife, the Hamas is my child, the Hamas for me is everything. I’ll make everything succeed as a Hamas officer and be sure that I’m going to kill a lot, a lot, a lot of Israelis, in Gaza or outside Gaza.”
On being asked about his role in the Israel-Gaza conflict and a possible end to the war, Koubi had said “We have to continue fighting until Israel, the Israeli army, the IDF, must kill Yahya Sinwar. Even he will fight. I’m sure that Yahya Sinwar wouldn’t leave the Gaza Strip. He will stay until the last bullet.”
The last bullet took out Sinwar but does that mean the war will end?
