Need To Revisit Anti-Terror Policy: Pak Army Chief
Pakistan’s Army Chief Gen. Syed Asim Munir has acknowledged that a strategy to engage with terrorists had allowed them to regroup in the tribal areas. At an in-camera briefing for members of the National Assembly, Gen. Munir indirectly hinted that this policy was followed by the military and political leadership under Imran Khan, following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021. Now a three-pronged plan—deter, dialogue and development—to root out terrorism was already underway. Munir gave details about current security issues and the army’s anti-terror operations in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.
