EAM Speaks to Counterparts
Dr Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs (EAM), has repeatedly mentioned that India has been measured in its actions.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated his call for de-escalation in separate calls with Dr Jaishankar and Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif, according to the Department of State. The EAM has responded to this by saying that India appreciates the U.S. commitment to work with India to counter terrorism, however, any escalation from Pakistan will see a strong response.
Spoke with US @SecRubio this evening.
Deeply appreciate US commitment to work with India in the fight against terrorism.
Underlined India’s targeted and measured response to cross-border terrorism. Will firmly counter any attempts at escalation.

Dr Jaishankar echoed this statement in conversations with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, had earlier said further retaliation was “increasingly certain” after both countries accused each other of launching drone attacks.
Drones, Missiles And Defence Systems
Earlier, India’s MoD also said that Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets in northern and western India from Wednesday night into Thursday morning, and they were “neutralised” by Indian air defence systems.
In response, Indian forces targeted air defence radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan on Thursday, the ministry said. The Army scotched reports of a suicide attack in Pathankot or Rajouri, saying they were completely false. The Army also added there is no movement of tanks on either side.
