NEW DELHI: The government’s move to cut down on defence imports with the overarching aim of making India self-reliant in the critical sector is a welcome move but needs a clear roadmap, says Lt Gen PR Shankar (Retd), former Director General (Artillery). Speaking to StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale on ‘The Gist’, Lt Gen Shankar, who is now Professor at the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Madras, also spoke about the need for having a defence procurement advisory board comprising professionals with proven track record in procurement. The body can also monitor projects, he said, adding that the Services will have to lead the efforts for procurement.
