A rise in conflicts in various parts of the world has meant governments are spending more on their militaries than they did earlier. And defence spending is projected to rise further, says the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in its Military Balance report for 2024. The Russia-Ukraine war is almost two years old and continuing; the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza Strip has elicited military responses from Iran-backed groups such as the Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen. India too is spending more on defence. Blame it on Chinese aggression and perpetual poking by Pakistan. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’ that comes to you from the Air Force Station in Jaisalmer, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale also talks about what the Indian Air Force needs on an urgent basis.
