Despite Russia/Ukraine, India US Ties Have Depth To Weather Storms

NEW DELHI: Ukraine Ukraine Ukraine. The US obsession with Ukraine and its need to get India on board with suitable condemnations of Russia’s behaviour, cast a long shadow on the 2+2 dialogue in Washington DC. India didn’t come on board the way the US would have wanted, so some dissatisfaction there and annoyance here.

In this conversation on The Gist, Arun Kumar Singh, former ambassador to the US, believes the bilateral relationship is broad and solid enough to weather these storms. No less than Secretary Blinken acknowledged that the India Russia partnership dated back to a time when the US was not willing to partner India.

Of course any decision by India to buy Russian oil could go down negatively in DC, but India is yet to make up its mind and may well leverage the Russian offer to get a better price from traditional suppliers in the Persian Gulf.
