NEW DELHI: Despite 16 rounds of talks between India and China at the Corps Commander level, several friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) still remain. Time and again the Chinese side has shown its unwillingness, reluctance rather, in moving forward. And now, they have come up with a plan to build a new highway called G695, the second one through the disputed Aksai Chin region. The new highway will run closer to the LAC than G219 that was built several decades ago. In this chat with StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale, Lt Gen. Rakesh Sharma (Retd), former commander of 14 Corps discusses the motives behind China’s new move, whether it is serious about resolving the boundary issue and how India should proceed.
