One Dead, Several Hurt In France Knife Attack, Killer Shot By Police

A soccer match between Paris St-Germain and Barcelona in the French capital on Wednesday night took place under tightened security measures after a threat from the Daesh, or Islamic State.

PARIS: A man armed with a knife fatally stabbed one person and wounded another on Wednesday in the French southwestern city of Bordeaux, a government source said. The attacker was killed by police. Police do not initially think the attack was terrorism-related, BFM TV reported.

The Bordeaux prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The attack took place near the banks of the Garonne river in central Bordeaux. One video on social media showed police standing over a body covered in a white blanket. Reuters could not immediately verify the video.

Less than four months before the Olympic Games, France is on its highest state of security alert.
