Ladakh Deadlock: What Happens Now?

NEW DELHI: One word appears to sum up the India China situation on the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh: Deadlock!

With talks between the corps commanders of the two sides having collapsed on Sunday, where do we go from here? It is not even clear whether talks on this issue will resume any time in the near future. It means the standoff and deployment of large numbers of troops will continue with all its attendant risks.

India appears to have been taken by surprise by this development. Not for the first time, our inability to read China’s intentions have been cruelly exposed.
