NO! INS Vikrant Did Not Attack Karachi, And Munir Has Not Been Arrested

India Pakistan info war

From TV channels to YouTube and social media, India’s war on Pakistan-backed terrorism has seen wall-to-wall coverage. But there was also fiction masquerading as fact.

Witness the sensational Pakistani claim of downing five Indian aircraft on day one of Operation Sindoor. The long Indian silence lent weight to other claims that China’s electronic warfare systems gifted to Pakistan had jammed the GPS of IAF fighters, and so on.

Social media was flooded with images of a downed IAF aircraft, which India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) later clarified was a MiG29 that had crashed in Barmer, Rajasthan, in September last year.

But by day two, in the absence of any proof provided by Pakistan, it was clear the claim was a lie, part of a major disinformation campaign being waged by Islamabad against India in a war-like situation.

Another sensational claim by Pakistan on social media was the video of an attack on Hazira port in Gujarat. The PIB clarified that the video was from an oil tanker explosion in July 2021.

Anshul Saxena (X handle @askanshul) has flagged the online rant of a man claiming to be from the Indian Army, that the Pahalgam attack on tourists was an Indian false flag operation.

@askanshul points out, the term “false flag” was coined by former Pakistani ambassador to India Abdul Basit. He then proceeded to unmask the man making the claim: Kanji Malik of PIB Colony in Karachi, with links to the Pakistani army.

Of course, two can play the same game. @arungolaya carried a claim by @official_kpt that “Karachi port had sustained heavy damage following a strike by India, resulting in unacceptable loss of property.” Is this an Indian plant to undermine Pakistani morale? We don’t know, but Golaya and many of us would like somebody to verify this.

The current conflict mirrors what is going on in Ukraine, where there is a large-scale use of unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles. There is also massive disinformation going on through the social media platform. This would appear to be the new face of war.
