Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on Thursday said that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is only possible via routes designated by Iran, warning that any alternative route introduced without Tehran’s coordination is unacceptable.
The statement comes amid heightened attention on maritime security in one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints.
IRGC Raises Safety Concerns
According to the IRGC, a newly announced shipping route that was established without consultation with Iran poses risks to maritime safety.
The force said any navigation arrangement affecting the Strait of Hormuz must take Iran’s requirements into account.
Warning to Vessels
The IRGC also warned that it would take action against vessels that fail to comply with its regulations and navigation requirements in the waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital route for global energy supplies, carrying a significant share of the world’s oil and gas exports.
Iran’s latest remarks are likely to draw close attention from shipping companies and governments monitoring security in the Gulf region.
