Israel carried out strikes early Monday against military targets in western and central Iran, just hours after Iran launched a barrage of missiles towards Israel in a major escalation of regional tensions.
The Iranian attack followed warnings from Tehran that Israel must halt its ongoing military operations in southern Lebanon or face further retaliation.
According to the Israeli military, multiple rounds of Iranian missiles were fired beginning around 10 p.m. local time on Sunday, triggering air raid sirens across several parts of Israel.
The missile launches came after Israel reportedly struck targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a stronghold of the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.
In response, Israel launched overnight strikes against military targets inside Iran, marking another dangerous chapter in the growing confrontation between the two regional rivals.
The latest exchange raises fears of a wider conflict involving Iran, Israel and armed groups aligned with Tehran across the Middle East.
