Philippines Says China Damaged Its Vessel Using Water Cannons

The Philippines Coast Guard has accused China of using water cannons to damage one of its vessels. As this video released by the Philippine Coast Guard shows, the Chinese Coast Guard vessels used water cannons on the Philippine Coast Guard vessel trapped in between. PCG also released this photo to show the damage it had caused to its vessel. The latest flashpoint took place near the China-controlled Scarborough Shoal in the disputed South China Sea when the PCG vessels were on the mission to resupply food and fuel to Filipino fishermen. A statement released by PCG says, “This damage serves as evidence of the forceful water pressure used by the China Coast Guard in their harassment of Philippines vessels.” China’s version claims it expelled two Philippine vessels from its waters. Scarborough Shoal is a contentious issue between China and the Philippines. It’s a triangular chain of rocks and reefs seized by China in 2012 and Manila accuses Beijing of harassing Philippine fishermen and preventing them from accessing the fish-rich lagoon.

US Releases Photos Of Gaza Pier Built To Deliver Humanitarian Aid

US Central Command released photos of the pier the US has built off Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. About 1000 US service members were involved in building the pier that cost $320 million, according to a Reuters report. President Biden announced the US would build a pier after aid agencies said there just wasn’t enough aid getting into Gaza from borders tightly controlled by Israel. The US hopes the pier will help relief material reach Gaza where the UN has already warned of famine. Israel’s military campaign against Hamas, in response to the October 7 attack, has killed at least 34,000 people in Gaza, most of whom are women and children. Israel has vowed to finish Hamas and is firm on carrying out a ground offensive in Rafah, one that US and other nations have been trying to avert.
