Ambassador Mukerji discusses India’s latest abstention on April 7, in the UN General Assembly on a vote suspending Russia from the UN Human Rights Council over allegations that Russian soldiers killed civilians while retreating from towns near the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, India’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador T.S.Tirumurti in his explanation saying all decisions should be taken “fully respecting due process” while condemning the “deeply disturbing” reports of civilian killings in the Ukrainian city of Bucha and supporting the call for an independent investigation, the “subversion and short circuiting of the whole Human Rights Council-led process, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar reiterating in Parliament India’s call for an “end to hostilities, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, and a return to dialogue and diplomacy”, saying “if India has chosen a side, it is the side of peace and it is for an immediate end to violence”, the blitzkrieg of information warfare and the role of big-tech in the battle of the narratives even as civilians are killed or flee their homes. India’s former UN Ambassador also delves into the lessons of history on war crime allegations, independent investigations and false flag operations, especially in the Balkans.
