PoJK: No Right To Info

 PoJK: No Right To Info

Residents of Pak Occupied Jammu and Kashmir have been denied the right to information, says a petition filed in the Mirpur High Court. It faults the local government for not constituting an information tribunal and for not appointing information officers in government departments and public undertakings. The petition filed by Zafar Mughal claiming to be from the National Union of Journalists, pointed out that the right to information was declared a fundamental right in 1974 but never implemented in the territory. The petitioner has demanded that the right be enforced under the 13th amendment to the constitution. Interesting to note that the petitioner has noted the right to information acts passed by the provincial assemblies of Sindh and Balochistan even though Islamabad treats PoJK as ‘azad’.
